Dear Glenbrook Club Members and Families,
We are happy to announce that the Glenbrook Club golf course will open on Monday, May 4th on schedule! This follows the lifting of the temporary closure of golf courses in Nevada by Governor Steve Sisolak. The Club will comply with all restrictions outlined in the State Directive 016 and implement best practices recommended by the CDC and PGA of America. Tomorrow, we will email and post to the Club website our new golfing policies and regulations, which we ask all members to follow.
Although the Stay-at-Home orders in Nevada that prohibit in-person dining at restaurants were extended through May 15th, we are optimistic that our Clubhouse will open on schedule on June 17th. The Governor is updating State orders daily and we are monitoring closely this fluid situation. We are also preparing for changes in our food and beverage operations – whether takeout, dine-in or both – to best ensure the health and safety of our members and staff.
Memorial Day Barbecue Postponed
We have decided to postpone the annual Memorial Day barbecue, which was scheduled for May 23rd. We have a tentative new date of Wednesday, June 24th from 5–7:30 pm for a member event that will combine the Memorial Day barbecue with the reception that was planned for that date. Please tentatively mark your calendars for June 24th – if this proves to be too early for us all to gather together, we will look for another date later in the summer.
Planning for the Clubhouse — We Need Your Input!
We are working with Thomas Tenorio, our General Manager, to provide members a robust takeout service and to put in place accommodations for a “new normal” for in-person dining at the restaurant and bar. To help the Club best meet anticipated member needs, please take a few minutes to complete the attached brief survey, which is linked here and at the end of this letter.
Golf Course and Pro Shop Improvements
Thanks to the hard work of our maintenance team, and a relatively mild winter, the roughs, fairways, greens, and tees are all in good condition and ready for play. Next week, we will sod the bunkers that we refurbished last fall and will continue to replace sprinkler heads and work on drainage.
During the off season, we also upgraded the interior of the Pro Shop to improve merchandising and to make the space more attractive and customer-friendly. We have relocated the handicap computer, are displaying trophies and awards more prominently, and have added the capacity to showcase more merchandise. These changes reflect the early contribution of our new head golf pro, Rick Vaughan, who officially joined our team last month. Welcome, Rick, and we look forward to a great season starting on Monday.
2020-21 Member Dues
A major goal of the Board is to improve the long-term financial performance and sustainability of the Club. As part of our financial planning, the Board had approved a dues increase of $200 for this year. However, as 2020 will clearly be a year of disruption and uncertainty, the Board has decided to suspend the dues increase at this time. Please look for your Glenbrook Club annual dues invoice of $2,800 for the year soon. Just a friendly reminder that dues are payable by June 1st.
Club Board Nominations
The Club Board has nine members each of whom may serve two three-year-terms. This summer, Jonathan Fore and I will be up for re-election. In addition, Randy Bolten will be retiring from the Board after an immensely productive tenure. Thus, the Board will have one opening for a new Director for the three-year term beginning August 2020.
If you are interested in serving on the Board or would like to submit the name of a member to be considered for nomination, please email a brief statement of support to cecebaise@gmail.com, before May 30th. In June, the Nominating Committee – Chair, CeCe Baise, Susan Clemons, and Susan Countner – will consider all names submitted and subsequently present a recommendation to the Board.
Revised Summer 2020 Club Calendar
While we have attached the current 2020 season calendar, linked here and posted on the website, it is likely to change. We will email you any significant developments and will update the calendar on the website as needed. If you have problems accessing the members section of the website, please email dianerogers66@sbcglobal.net.
Member Information Update Form
In the coming weeks, we will be emailing all members a form to update contact and other information regarding your family and your membership. We ask in advance that you complete and return the form in a timely manner.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Club soon and thank you for your understanding in these challenging times. Please don’t hesitate to email me at fieldanderson@gmail.com or any member of the Board, with questions or concerns.
Best,
Nancy
